VALUE SELF-CARE AND COMBAT COVID-19

Living in a time of global pandemic is crucial and burdensome. Our health, both physically and mentally, is faced with an inevitable challenge to combat an invisible enemy. Being cooped up all day for weeks on end and all the negative updates going around can have an adverse effect on our wellbeing. Just as it is important to follow the protocols to stop the spread of the infection, it is also crucial that we learn how to practice self-care in order for us to win this battle. 

With this in mind, here are several self-care tips to help reduce stress, increase productivity and be in good shape in this time of global pandemic.

DISCONNECT 

TAKE A BREAK! You read that right. Take a break from reading, listening and watching news and stories of the global pandemic. Research says that too much news content, when it comes to your health, could be troubling. Although it’s a must to keep yourself posted, too much of everything is not beneficial. Spare some time of the day to put down our phones, turn off our TV’s or any source of news and spend time to MEDITATE, REFLECT and RECHARGE. 

EXERCISE 

Gyms may be closed but guess what? A simple or heart-pumping exercise can certainly be done within your home or neighborhood. Take a deep breath of fresh air outside if you can or simply follow workout videos. All you need to do is get up and move your hands, body and feet. If you’re working from home as a call center agent, find time to stand up from your workstation to do some stretching. 

PAMPER YOURSELF

Indulge in a relaxing bath when you can. Put on some good music, light a scented candle and pamper yourself with a body scrub.  Feel that refreshing water on your body and let every bad energy go down from your body to the sink.

READ

Enjoy getting lost in a good book. Not only does reading make us smarter and lower our stress level, it takes us to a whole new world and gives way to new ideas and so increases creativity and imagination, which is beneficial for our mental health.

WRITE

Write about what you want to accomplish during quarantine whether on a daily or weekly basis. You can also talk about new-found goals and dreams while being in quarantine. Study shows that writing relieves stress, makes one happier, and helps us become better decision-makers.

MEDITATE 

Give yourself a moment of silence to think about the things which make you feel happy and inspired. Maybe plan for a future trip once everything goes back to normal. This simple exercise helps highlight the positive things to be thankful for in these trying times.

CONNECT & COMMUNICATE

Spend quality time with the people closest to you in presence or in spirit. Be creative. Pray together or spend time on board games and the like. Take advantage of Messenger, WhatsApp or Viber to connect with your friends and your bpo company workmates. Encourage one another in this time of crisis. 

UNWIND & GET CREATIVE

Relaxation is vital as it slows our heart rate, reduces our blood pressure, and relieves tension. Unwind to your favorite “feel-good” movies and music playlists. Unwind by treating yourself with long hours of sleep at night and even having siestas. GET CREATIVE by learning something new and exploring a new hobby! It might be something to do with cooking, baking, or even knitting! There are numerous ways to keep ourselves productive and creative while staying at home.

Outbreaks are stressful. Let us stand united and fight for all the affected and the well-being of our loved ones and ourselves. Let us help one another flatten the curve by staying at home and observing proper precautionary measures while staying sane and fit by practicing these self-care tips while in quarantine.
